New Data Finds Executives Focused on Cutting Jobs for AI Efficiency Are Half as Likely to Invest in AI Upskilling

Image
Businessolver research reveals a C-suite divided over whether AI should make the workforce more capable or leaner, while CIOs and CTOs are 25 points more likely than CFOs to worry that technology will outpace internal systems and workforce skills. Executives investing in AI for cost savings via headcount reduction are nearly half as likely to invest in the AI upskilling and workforce readiness needed to enable the AI efficiency they seek, according to new Businessolver research. Among the 27% of C-suite executives who name cost savings through headcount reduction as a top AI investment goal, just 18% also prioritize AI upskilling, compared with 35% of CXOs who do not prioritize AI for headcount reduction. The same leaders trail on predictive analytics (21% vs. 44%), time savings and productivity, and reducing employees’ administrative work — the investments that make a workforce more capable. “AI does not create value on its own. People create value when they’re ena...

AI Productivity Without Work Redesign Is a Faster Path to Burnout

Image
AI was supposed to take work off our plates. Instead, for some employees, it may just be piling more on. A recent Employee Benefit News article highlighted some significant findings from the WebMD Health Services’ 2026 Workplace and Employee Survey Report: 80% of workers are using AI. But employees who strongly agree that AI makes them more productive are 4.5 times more likely to experience burnout. Middle managers are feeling the strain most acutely, reporting burnout at more than three times the rate of individual contributors. That should get the attention of every leader in tech — and really, every leader. The immediate temptation is to conclude that AI is creating burnout. The more useful conclusion is that many companies are changing the technology, but they’re not redesigning the experience around how people actually work. That’s an important distinction. If you introduce a new tool but it doesn’t eliminate any meetings, speed up approvals or produce reports faster, it’s no...

Workforce AI Literacy: Why HR Must Build Role-Based Skills for Human-AI Work

Image
AI adoption fails when employees get access to the technology but lack the skills to apply it judiciously. Access, alone, does not create value. People need to recognize when AI is useful, where it is not and where human review is important. HR directors may use workforce AI literacy to give staff a framework for becoming ready to work with AI. It links training to employment context, risk level and business outcome. AI literacy needs to be congruent with the realities of work, where each role leverages AI differently. Why should Workforce AI literacy become an HR priority? As AI becomes part of daily work across functions, HR should prioritize workforce AI literacy. Today, AI is used by employees to write, study, analyze, support customers and support decisions. This affects the role of HR. You’re not training people on one tool anymore. You are helping them to be judicious in the use of AI, mindful of privacy, and disciplined in review. Why is this important? Weak AI can lead to ...
