Rippling Opens AI Lab in Bengaluru to Accelerate the Future of AI-Powered Business Software

The AI Lab Expands Rippling’s Engineering Investment as the Company Doubles Its India Workforce

Rippling, the AI-native workforce management company, launched the Rippling AI Lab, a research and engineering group dedicated to continuous AI innovation. The AI Lab is based at Rippling’s Embassy Tech Village campus in Bengaluru, the company’s largest engineering hub outside its San Francisco headquarters.

Our goal has been to build an engineering organization in India with ownership of some of Rippling’s most important technical challenges.

The AI Lab team develops core components of Rippling’s AI platform, including infrastructure, evaluation frameworks, sandboxing, scaling, latency optimization, and other platform capabilities that support AI across Rippling products.

The work of the AI Lab builds on systems Rippling has developed over the past decade. Rippling’s Employee Graph is a live model of identity, reporting structure, governance, permissions, and policy across an organization. Rather than stitching together acquired point solutions, Rippling has built its payroll, finance, benefits, compliance, and IT management products natively in conjunction with the Employee Graph. Because every product shares the same underlying data model, AI can pull accurate, real-time context about a company’s people, finances and policies, and take action within each customer’s existing permissions and audit trail, already in Rippling.

In practice, this means that rather than suggesting how to onboard an employee in a new country, Rippling AI can run the process itself, applying the applicable tax rules, provisioning account access, shipping devices, enrolling benefits, and routing approvals through the appropriate stakeholders, all within the company’s existing controls and audit trail.

The launch marks the next phase of Rippling’s investments in AI and India. Since establishing operations in India in 2017, Rippling has scaled to nearly 2,500 employees in the country, with plans to increase headcount. Rippling is also expanding its footprint at Embassy Tech Village, one of Bengaluru’s most prominent technology parks, bringing Rippling’s total workspace to 170,000 sq ft. Sonia Parandekar, Rippling’s Senior Vice President of Engineering and India Site Lead, is driving this growth.

“Our goal has been to build an engineering organization in India with ownership of some of Rippling’s most important technical challenges,” said Parandekar. “The AI Lab is a natural next step, giving engineers here the opportunity to solve ambitious technical problems and build AI products that will have an impact for customers around the world.”

Rippling AI Labs is hiring for AI research, applied AI, backend engineering, platform engineering, and machine learning, with roles ranging from senior engineer, principal engineer, and engineering leadership. The company is looking for hands-on engineers with strong backend and platform fundamentals to support AI Lab.
